Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about starting therapy at Calma: insurance, fees, telehealth, Spanish-language sessions, and what to expect.

How do I get started?

Call or text (972) 372-9839, or use the contact form. We'll set up a free 15-minute consultation to see if we're a good fit.

Do you take my insurance?

Insurance is accepted through Headway. Check your plan there; you'll see whether you're covered and an estimate of your cost.

What if I want to pay myself?

Self-pay rates are on Fees and Insurance. You'll get a written Good Faith Estimate before your first session.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

Not at this time.

How long is a session?

The first appointment (intake) takes about 45 minutes. Regular sessions run 53 minutes or more.

Can I have sessions by video?

Yes, by secure video (Doxy.me), as long as you are physically in Texas at the time of each session.

Do you offer therapy in Spanish?

Yes. Every service is available in English or Spanish.

Do you see couples?

Yes, with limited spaces. Reach out to ask about current openings.

What's your cancellation policy?

Please give 48 hours notice. Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged the full session fee (capped at $200 when billed through Headway).

Is what I share confidential?

Yes, within the limits the law sets, such as when someone's safety is at serious risk. The Notice of Privacy Practices explains the details, and we'll go over them at your first appointment.

Can you prescribe medication?

No. Counselors don't prescribe. If medication might help, we can talk about a referral to a prescriber and, with your permission, coordinate care.

What if I'm in crisis?

Calma does not offer emergency services. Call or text 988, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room.
